PDF Enhancements

ImageGear provides the latest PDF support for developers working with Acrobat files. Developers can quickly integrate PDF annotation, editing, and creation into their applications. Here are the latest PDF enhancements in ImageGear:

Powerful 3D PDF Content

Developers can create applications with support for 3D PDF content. Starting with version 1.6, PDF introduces the capability for collections of 3D objects, such as those used by CAD formats, to be embedded in PDF files. Such collections are called 3D models, and PDF refers to them as 3D Artwork. In PDF documents, 3D Artwork is represented by 3D annotations stored in Universal 3D (U3D) format.

Robust PDF/X and PDF/A Verifiers

There is new ImageGear API that verifies compliance with PDF/X and PDF/A standards, which are defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

• PDF/X - The PDF/X standards apply to graphic content exchange. The most widely used standards for a print publishing workflow are several PDF/X formats: PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3, and PDF/X-4.
• PDF/A - The PDF/A standards apply to long-term archiving of electronic documents. The most widely used standards for PDF archiving are PDF/A-1a and PDF/A-1b (for less stringent requirements).

Optimized PDF Display

ImageGear introduces optimized PDF display rendering and scrolling capabilities. Developers can control the IG display API to re-render PDF page content for display.

Vector Improvements

ImageGear provides developers with tools to read, write, and render vector images. The latest version of ImageGear provides the following new features to integrate and work with vector-based images and data.

Use Universal 3D (U3D)

The U3D file format, short for "Universal 3D", is a universal vector standard for storing three-dimensional data of all kinds to facilitate data exchange. The U3D format is natively supported by PDF, and 3D objects in U3D format can be inserted into PDF document files and interactively visualized by PDF viewers. The ImageGear U3D Vector Component supports reading, writing and rasterizing the U3D vector files.

Work with Design Web Format (DWF)

DWF is an open file format developed by AutoDesk for storing DWG files on the Internet. DWF contains a vector based description of drawings and illustrations.

Digital Camera Support

ImageGear provides developers with support for a wide range of digital camera RAW formats. Each camera model is exhaustively tested to work with ImageGear so you can develop your application without worrying about compatibility problems. The following are the latest digital camera features:

Support for the new file format: XPS. The XPS Document format represents a set of related pages with a fixed layout, which are organized as one or more documents.

Easily Handle Huge Adobe PSB Files

ImageGear provides support for the Adobe PSB (Photoshop Big) or Large Document format, which is a newer version of Adobe PSD designed for files over 2 gigabytes, supporting up to 300,000 pixels in any dimension. The PSB format is almost identical to the Photoshop native format (PSD).

Juggle Photoshop Layers Easily

ImageGear now allows users to load layered Photoshop image files (Adobe PSD and Adobe PSB) and retain image layers for editing. Users can also create new image layers, delete existing ones, as well as flatten and display the selected composition of image layers.

Manipulate Spot Colors Easily

Developers can easily work with spot colors from Pantone or Adobe colorbooks via API.  ImageGear supports multiple extra channels and can preserve spot colors while converting these into file formats or color spaces like RGB and CMYK.

Save Time with ImageClean™ Enhancements

For developers working with 1-bit images, ImageGear provides many time-saving methods to modify and enhance black and white data with a set of ImageClean functions. The following are new ImageClean features:

No More Punch Hole Marks

RemovePunchHoles automatically detects and removes the punch holes on a 1-bit scanned image. It works for most common hole puncher standards including 2, 3, 4 and 5 hole puncher marks. The method takes a 1-bit image page and the set of advanced parameters specifying the location and diameter of punch holes.

Watch Lines Disappear

RemoveLines automatically detects and removes horizontal and vertical solid and broken lines on the 1-bit scanned image. The method takes a 1-bit image page and the set of advanced parameters specifying the line's attributes.

Dot Lines Removed in a Snap

RemoveDotLines automatically detects and removes horizontal and vertical dotted lines on the 1-bit scanned image. The method takes a 1-bit image page and the set of advanced parameters specifying the attributes to be used for the processing.

Powerful Mathematical Morphology

The field of mathematical morphology contributes a wide range of operators to image processing, all based around a few simple mathematical concepts from set theory. The operators are particularly useful for the analysis of binary images and common usages include edge detection, noise removal, image enhancement and image segmentation.

The following morphology image processing functions have been added: Erode, Dilate, Open, and Close.

Time-Saving Special Effects

Developers can now use the following new image processing effects:

Shear

The Shear function applies a shearing effect to an image, moving the image rasters or columns according to the specified offsets.

Aging

The Aging function applies an aging effect to make an image look older.

Spatter

The Spatter function applies a spatter effect to an image, making it look to have been painted in the impressionist style of painting.

Shadow

The DropShadow function adds a drop shadow to an image.

Oilify

The Oilify function makes the image appear similar to an oil painting.

Functional Light

• The DirectionalLight function adds bars of light according to a sine wave pattern.
• The RadialLight function adds circles of light according to a sine wave pattern.
• The FreeDirectionalLight function adds bars of light according to a custom pattern.
• The FreeRadialLight function adds circles of light according to a custom pattern.

Fragmentation

The Fragment function fragments an image into four blended images which move diagonally outward from the original image.

Lens Flare

The LensFlare function applies a lens flare effect to the image.

Pointillist

The Pointillist function makes the image appear to have been painted in the pointillism style of painting.

Easily Integrate DirectShow

The Multimedia component now supports DirectShow. DirectShow is a Microsoft framework and API for working with multimedia data. It supports a variety of formats. Developers can access still images, animations, movies with video and audio, and audio-only files loaded and exported on the fly from DirectShow.

Improved Resizing

Added Top-Left corner padding mode to the image processing resize functionality.

Users register with an email username and password, which provides access to this secure support section of our Web site. Preferred support is entirely Web-based and customer-driven with access to updates and fixes limited to version-specific items only.
